Written By: Joseph Gillespie Posted: August 24th, 2006 We all know that shopping online can provide great discounts compared to shopping the "real world". However, many times we forget that just like in the real world, we need to comparison shop. Retail stores slash prices and have big sales to compete with each other for your business, and so do online retailers! Free shipping, lower prices, and better selection could be only a URL away from the product you are currently looking at. And what about eBay, with all of the auctions available if you don't mind getting something used you could save even more! I recently encountered a comic strip in my local newspaper that was titled "Money Saving Tip". It showed a fancy coat rack, and under it said "Coat rack from department store, $149" the next frame showed a very plain coat rack and said, "Coat rack from eBay, $34". Finally in the last frame, we see a pile of coats and shows on what could be any rack, and under it says, "Either one in your house.". This is a very true lesson, despite it's humor. If you are looking for something that's just there to be functional, then why waste money on buying a brand new brand name version of it? Any coat rack from eBay will suffice, or even just a cheaper new one from Amazon, etc. But comparison shopping online can be difficult and annoying. How do you know which sites to look at, and do you really need to open 10, 20, or more websites every time you want to make a simple purchase? Well, lucky for you there are a number of tools available to help you out. This price comparison tool is a very useful tool that allows you to see the best prices on eBay, Amazon, Shopping.com, and thousands more all in one easy to use application. Instantly see who's got the best price, and get the best deal in no time. Froogle is a website built by Google to provide online comparison shopping as well. Froogle allows you to search for a product, and get current retail prices from a large range of retailers. However, one of the main differences between Froogle & Price Pirates is that Froogle depends on users/retailers to add their prices and items to the site, and some of the information can be outdated. Price Pirates is a real time search tool, that provides the latest information at the very monet you make your search. Price Pirates also offer auction functions such as alerts and SMS messages. Both Froogle & Price Pirates are completely free to use. Last Modified: August 26th, 2006
